ORAL CANCER SCREENING

Every year approximately 3,200 Canadians are diagnosed with oral cancer-1,050 of those diagnosed result in death. When found early, oral cancer patients have a 90% survival rate. It is recommended for everyone over the age of 17 to be screened annually for oral cancer.

We start with a physical examination and inspect the outside and inside of your gums and cheeks, extending all the way from top to bottom and front to back. We examine the top of the tongue, the floor of the mouth and the back of the throat.

We are happy to offer an innovative new medical device in detecting oral cancer. Identafi is a simple test that is painless and takes less than 3 minutes. It is a device that uses a revolutionary light –wave technology and can help us to detect abnormalities that may lead to oral cancer. Having this screening once a year is recommended since in its earliest stages most oral cancer is virtually undetectable by just looking.

This screening is done once a year and is covered by most dental insurance.
